Commons management

Qua Fen, East Fen, Angle Commons as well as the Horse Fens are owned and managed by Third Parties. The Common’s are privately owned by the Lord of the Manor and you should contact his Land Agents Cheffins Ely.

Soham Town Council is neither owner nor currently acts in any land management capacity. Please contact the relevant Parties for common land management, its regulation and in complaint.

There is a current large scale housing development, the EASTERN GATEWAY proposal which will sit between Qua and East Fen Common’s. For a list of rare species found on East Fen Common please click here and a report commissioned in 2017 concerning a biodiversity study please click here.

Soham Town Council has delegated Cllr Warner to act in advocacy on matters concerning the Eastern Gateway planning application to

  • assure the protection, safeguarding and enhancing of these common lands of biodiversity (net gain) and as valuable assets to high carbon offset (Carbon sequestering)
  • ensure sufficiency to resident amenity provision and benefit on this site and to the wider community
