Soham Town Council provides annually hanging baskets and festive decorations throughout the High St.
The behind the scenes’ work and negotiations to enable these activities to occur happens well in advance each year and includes obtaining the necessary permits and authorisations from Cambridgeshire County Council Highways which is the Responsible Authority for any work on public highways/roads
For festive lights are strung in three areas, along the High St from Churchgate St to Red Lion Square, the Christmas Tree donated and dressed by Staploe Rotary Club and the lights within the Churchyard St Andrews usually from week after Remembrance Sunday to around second week of the New Year. Every year volunteers are needed to carry on the tradition of lighting up the private grounds within St Andrews. This year (Christmas 2021) there was only one volunteer and without further community support it is likely that the lighting up of this area will at some future point have to be discontinued.
